About Deanna
Artist Statement
As an artist I use my work to process the world around me, whether that’s working through hard times in my personal life or to help me understand and empathize with others. I use charcoal as a medium in drawing to achieve depth and depict the darkness that can sometimes seem overwhelming. Through the process of reduction I find the light hiding behind every dark corner. In doing so, I remind myself to find the light in every situation, and I hope my work encourages others to do the same. Through large scale wire sculpture I attempt to encourage the contemplation of choice and how our choices relate to freedom. Our choices define our lives, and I want my work to entice the viewer to open their mind to the myriad of possibilities we have in the modern world. In my jewelry and textile works I attempt to bring joy to the world through beauty. In creating wearable and functional pieces I hope to encourage the users to embrace joy.
